Kayla had quite a busy day for a baby yesterday. The nurse noticed that her oxygen level was drifting up and down more then normal so she took some blood. The blood test showed that she had a low hemoglobin count which would have caused the drifting and the additional fluid retention. Apparently as a baby grows their body requires additional hemoglobin which they can't always maintain, especially for preemies. They gave her another blood transfusion to increase her hemoglobin. The doctors and nurses said the blood transfusion is a good thing for her and the blood results looked good for everything else.
She lost 3 oz. which was actually a good thing because she isn't near as swollen in her legs as she was. She also had one very heavy poopy diaper that weighed 61 grams!
The eye doctor checked her out and said her eyes look good. He will continue to check her every 2 weeks.
Kayla will have another blood transfusion this morning just to make sure her hemoglobin increases. They will also repeat the blood work either today or tomorrow. Last night her oxygen level was pretty stable. Overall she is still a healthy happy baby who was sleeping very peacefully last night.
